Join us as we trek in the shadows of active volcanoes to bring the Gospel of Christ to the ends of the earth. Costa Rica, literally the "rich coast", boasts a richness of faith as diverse as its rain forests. This small country which comprises less than 0.1% of the world's land mass is home to 5% of the earths known species. Costa Rica's vast richness is punctuated by thunderous volcanoes, dense rain forest, and beautiful beaches. This summer a few brave men will journey to this majestic land to work side by side with the Christian Life Movement. The primary work of the mission is to catechize the children of the small villages on the Nicaraguan border. Costa Rica is a generally middle class nation, but it is surrounded by great poverty in Nicaragua and Panama on its northern and southern borders. Nights will be spent under an open air canopy with nothing to separate us from the sights and sounds of rain forest. Days will be spent working with children in the villages to prepare them for the sacraments, especially for first communion. We often join these children in there homes. You will see a vast difference of resources in these houses, ranging from some homes which have electricity to others which still use wood burning stoves to cook meals. It is not uncommon to see chickens running in and out of the house. Don't speak the language, don't worry. The beauty of working with children is that they have very simple vocabularies. There patience is unending, and they will work hard to understand and be understood. We will also take the opportunity to feed the poor in the city of San Jose. Every Friday night, the young of the Christian Life Movement community gather downtown to walk the streets of San Jose. We will join them to bring hot coffee, snacks, and even more importantly the dignity of being loved to homeless we meet. Join the great adventure!
