My Story

My time in college began with one distinct decision: will I continue going to Sunday Mass or not? Although I had been involved in my home parish, my view of religion was based on following rules. Feeling unfulfilled, I wasn't sure if I wanted anything to do with my Catholic faith anymore.

During my first few weeks at the University of Maryland, I met FOCUS missionaries and upperclassmen who witnessed the faith in a dynamic way through their joy and peace, which inspired me to want more from life and from my Catholic faith. They invited me to spend time with them, to join their Bible study, go on retreats, and eventually attend the National Conference in Florida. The people I met were always genuine and loving, so I naturally kept spending time with them.

I experienced a powerful encounter with the person of Jesus Christ present in the Eucharist at the FOCUS National Conference 2010 in Orlando. This encounter opened my eyes to authentic love and changed my view of myself and the world around me. It was through this encounter that I started to place my identity in Christ and my life started to radically change.

My Mission

College provides many learning experiences, identity formation and personal growth, in which many students drift away from their Catholic faith. Missionaries share life with students wherever they are in their faith journey by inviting them into relationship with Christ and the Church, and inspiring and equipping them to do the same with others.

For two years I served the students at the University of Rhode Island and saw so many great things happening in the lives of those students.

I am happy to announce that I will be moving to Colorado to serve on the Quality, Growth and Innovation (QGI) team in the Denver Support Center. There I will be assisting with feedback and special projects to increase the quality and size of the FOCUS program on our campuses.
