Helping to Fulfill the Great Commission

"The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." - Luke 10:2

Students at universities and colleges today are starving for love, for Jesus and for someone to be a witness to hope. John Paul II said it best in a speech given to young people in 1986, "Do not be afraid of your youthfulness. Do not be afraid of running the risk of freedom. Do not stifle the generous impulses of the love which asks you to make your life a service to others." There is a great need for Catholic missionaries in today's college world.

This need for Catholic missionaries has given me the desire to continue to serve Jesus with FOCUS and to direct my attention to our impoverished brothers and sisters; because when we are faced with the poor, we experience true reality that the person who we think is so different from us is actually a brother or sister in Christ. They are Christ disguised in the poor. They are human beings who are longing for the Divine just as we are.

This desire to serve the poor is why I recently took a position with our international missions department. Our team is a branch of FOCUS that seeks to lift up human dignity by serving the physically and spiritually impoverished of the world in the charity and truth of the Catholic Faith. These missions provide students an encounter with Christ through service to the poor, transforming their perspective on human dignity.

To fulfill Christ’s Great Commission (Matthew 28: 19-20) and share Christ with others I will be moving to Denver, Colorado to work from our Support Center. I look forward to fulfilling this call as part of the FOCUS Missions team as Program Manager, and hope you will join me on this incredible mission by supporting this work as one of my mission partners.

I cannot wait to share more with you as I continue on the journey to serve as His missionary.

My Journey with FOCUS

I was away from the faith for almost 10 years. In high school I studied abroad in Japan then pursued B.A. in Economics and Linguistics. I then received a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship to study and live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When I arrived at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana to pursue my master’s degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics I met Jesus and had a powerful conversion back to the Catholic Church. While in graduate school I became passionately involved at St. John’s Catholic Newman Center on campus where I first encountered FOCUS. I am now excited to be a part of the FOCUS Missions International Team.
