After growing up in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, in a loving family and community, I left for college at Vanderbilt University. My first two years of college were good. I had good friends. I excelled in my classes. I was active in club tennis, marching band, and volunteered as a tutor for little kids.
From the outside looking in, my life was good. But on the inside, something was missing. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I started to feel sad, for no reason that I could identify. I felt lonely, even in a room full of people. I was pouring myself into my classes, activities, and the other pressures of college, but nothing was fulfilling me completely.
At the beginning of my junior year, I started going to some events put on by FOCUS with the Vanderbilt Catholic Community. I met a missionary, Mara, who really reached out to me. We started hanging out and I attended her Bible study. I wanted the peace and joy that she had. So I started to pray, read the Bible, go to Mass regularly , and slowly I came to know Jesus Christ personally. And in Him, I finally felt at home. I felt the peace, love, and fulfillment that I had been longing for so badly.
I realized that although I had many good things in my life before, God wanted more for me. He wanted me to have life to the FULLEST.
After having my life so changed, I couldn't help but desire to share with others the fullness of life in Christ.
I am now in my 5th year as a FOCUS missionary. Wow, it's amazing to look back at all that I have been able to witness God do in students' hearts; I am so thankful that He has called me to this mission! I spent my first three years as a missionary at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University and now I am in my second year as the team director at the University of Virginia.
I invite you to consider being a part of this work on college campuses. It would be impossible without you. We are one body and every part is vital.
Your prayers and financial support will allow me to be totally available on campus to be with students, be a witness to them, teach in Bible studies, and mentor individual students to be leaders in their faith and evangelize their peers.
I look forward to working side by side with you in this mission!
